Dear Editor, I was extremely disappointed to read that our failure to respond to Brian Dipert’s blast email was construed as Cypress’s “programmable-logic product line...[is] on life support.” Nothing could be farther from the truth. Our Delta39K and Ultra37000 CPLDs are selling well, and we’re migrating programmable-logic capabilities to many of our other product lines. As for the programming products, programmable-logic development tools that are the subject of the article, Cypress offers a wide range of inexpensive tools and kits for developing programmable-logic designs, including its Warp software--which, with over 28,000 software seats in place around the world and use in over 150 universities, is one of the most popular HDL-based CPLD development tools in the industry. Warp tool for PC ($99) and Warp tool for Unix ($99) include full Verilog and VHDL support. Both tools support design development for all of Cypress's PLD products, including Delta39K and Ultra37000 CPLDs. When it comes time to program the chips, Cypress offers its ISR Programming Kit for $99, which includes ISR (in-system-reprogramming) software, programming cable, prototype board, and a textbook on VHDL. If that isn't inexpensive enough, designers can buy the Warp tool and the ISR Programming Kit for $175. Rajiv Nema Senior Product Marketing Manager Datacom Division Cypress Semiconductor
